Balance factors

Properly balanced water creates an environment that optimizes the disinfection process. It also protects the pool/spa system components from chemical corrosion, thus increasing the useful operating life of the equipment. Properly balanced water provides a more enjoyable swimming experience for the pool/spa users.

The factors that contribute to the balance of water are pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, temperature, and total dissolved solids. All the chemicals (except salt and stabilizer)*  needed to maintain the water balance are covered by the agreement with Pool Rescuers Corp. Agreements generally provide for weekly cleaning services, but some pools might require extra visits. “Especially, pools that are used more frequently, have a lot of kids in them, are heated, or have a lot of leaves.” These pools need cleaning more often.

*Salt is paid by customers as needed. *The stabilizer is paid by customers twice a year.

Filtration and Circulation

Filtration and circulation are the means that provide clean clear water. Filtration is important because it removes contaminants that can promote the growth of bacteria or algae. Filters also remove particles that can make the water cloudy.

A properly designed/operated pool filtration and circulation system will:

* Dilute and flush all areas of the pool equally.

* It will mechanically remove insoluble solid matter from the water.

* The filtration and circulation systems also provide for equal distribution of cleansed water to all areas of the pool.

The necessary minimum flow rate for any pools operation are:

  • Swimming pools – 6 hours
  • spa – 30 minutes

The cartridge filter is recommended to be replaced every 6 months or once a year.

VGB Act

The VGB Act is a federal law that was designed to improve swimming pool and spa safety. The law is focused on drowning prevention. The importance of is to protect swimmers from being caught in the drains suction. The VGB Act required that drains be installed, if you do not add this Gravity Drainage system, Automatic Pump shut-off system, or Drain Disembowelment. No pool or spa should be operated at any time of the covers of the vacuum outlets are missing or damaged.
